Role: Consultant Psychiatrist – Inpatient Dual Unit

We are supporting a well-established independent healthcare provider in their search for a Consultant Psychiatrist to work across two inpatient units (rehab and acute care) at a purpose-built service in Cheadle, Greater Manchester. This is a full-time, employed position with significant clinical leadership responsibility and involvement in service governance.
The service provides comprehensive inpatient mental health support for adults and young people, focused on enabling recovery in a structured and therapeutic environment set within landscaped gardens. You will join a peer group of Consultants and participate in a second on-call rota (no more frequent than 1 in 7).
Role Overview
- Consultant and Responsible Clinician across two units (rehab and acute)
- Clinical responsibility for assessments, treatment planning and patient care
- Active MDT leadership including CPA meetings and risk reviews
- Involvement in governance, audits and service development
- Attend Mental Health Tribunals and Managers’ Hearings
- Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to internal training
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, families and carers
Key Clinical & Management Duties
- Lead MDT care planning and therapeutic review meetings
- Ensure adherence to Mental Health Act legislation and organisational standards
- Provide written and verbal evidence for legal hearings
- Attend regular governance and academic meetings
- Support quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure unit compliance with CQC and internal regulatory frameworks
Post Requirements
- CCST / CCT (or equivalent) in the relevant areas of Psychiatry
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC registration and licence to practise
- MRCPsych (or equivalent), with S12 and AC approval
- Strong understanding of MHA, MCA and relevant legislation
- Proven MDT leadership and clinical governance experience
- Experience in inpatient mental health services (acute or rehab) preferred
- Committed to CPD and continuous improvement
