Salary: £162,791.74
Hours: 37.5 per week
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time


We are working in partnership with an independent healthcare provider to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist for an established inpatient service in Hook, Hampshire. This is a full-time employed role within a secure and specialist clinical setting supporting adults with complex mental health needs, learning disabilities and autism.

The service offers low secure and level 2 rehabilitation care for both male and female patients. It also delivers bespoke therapeutic placements (BTPs) for individuals requiring tailored support packages. You will be joining a strong multidisciplinary team within a well-structured and supportive clinical environment.


Service Overview

  • Secure and rehabilitation services across mixed-gender wards
  • Specialist pathways for learning disabilities and autism spectrum conditions
  • Bespoke individual placements
  • Structured MDT with strong leadership

Role Responsibilities

  • Clinical responsibility for patients, including ward rounds, risk reviews and strategic planning
  • Act as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act
  • Oversee referrals, admissions and pre-assessment processes
  • Provide psychiatric leadership in care planning and formulation
  • Attend Care and Treatment Reviews, Mental Health Tribunals and Managers' Hearings
  • Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to internal training and service development
  • Support clinical governance activities and help shape service strategy
  • Participate in the Consultant on-call rota

Requirements

  • Medical qualification with MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Section 12 and Approved Clinician status
  • Registered on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Proven clinical leadership and experience managing complex cases
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Previous experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist (desirable)
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation and best practice in psychiatry
