Job Purpose

As Therapies Lead, you will provide clinical and operational leadership across all therapy services, including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Art Psychotherapies. Working alongside the Head of Therapies, you’ll play a critical role in developing, optimising and innovating therapy pathways to support each child’s progress and wellbeing.

You will divide your time between leadership (1 day/week) and direct clinical support (4 days/week), serving as a key member of the school’s middle leadership team. Your expertise will help ensure therapy services are cohesive, impactful and aligned with the school’s curriculum and broader strategic objectives.


Responsibilities

Leadership and Operational Management

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of therapy professionals.
  • Promote the school’s values and nurture a reflective, empathetic and growth-oriented culture.
  • Support clinical leads through mentoring, supervision and collaborative planning.
  • Liaise between the therapy team and senior leadership, ensuring a shared vision and consistent communication.
  • Monitor therapy service capacity and referrals, contributing to performance reports and quality assurance for governors.
  • Ensure compliance with HCPC standards and professional guidelines.
  • Oversee therapy budget planning and resource allocation.

Clinical Support & Collaboration

  • Deliver direct therapy within your specialism to support pupils’ developmental goals.
  • Work in partnership with class leaders and ABA supervisors to integrate therapy goals into daily learning.
  • Support the therapeutic discharge and transition process for pupils.
  • Coordinate assessments and ensure that therapeutic interventions are tailored and tracked through clear outcomes.

Monitoring and Assessment

  • Review and analyse data to measure impact and adjust therapeutic strategies accordingly.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting for Annual Reviews and EHCP processes.
  • Contribute to research and governance compliance where applicable.

Professional Development & Training

  • Identify and address training needs within the therapy team.
  • Provide guidance, supervision and CPD for therapy staff.
  • Support HR processes related to staff competence and performance.

Requirements

You must have:

  • Professional qualification and HCPC registration in a relevant therapeutic discipline (e.g. SaLT, OT, Art Psychotherapy).
  • Minimum of 1–2 years leading therapy provision in a school or similar setting.
  • Demonstrated operational and clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience delivering therapy for children and young people with complex ASD-related needs.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of ABA and neurodiverse approaches.
  • Experience in school-based settings.
  • Familiarity with the Ofsted framework.
  • Interest or experience in SEN, Autism and family-centred therapy models.
